How is net salary calculated in Tunisia?

Net salary is obtained by deducting the employee CNSS contribution (9.68%) from gross salary, then income tax (IRPP) calculated on an annual base after a professional expense allowance and family deductions, and finally the social solidarity contribution (CSS). Each step follows a precise legal rule, detailed below.

And for the whole team, let the Payroll module do the math

This calculator is handy for a one-off simulation. To run payroll for the entire company — branded PDF payslips, salary advances, automatic accounting entries — Iberis HR's Payroll module applies these same rules to every employee in one click.

Payslip components

CNSS (employee share)

Social contribution deducted from gross salary at a rate of 9.68% (general RSNA regime), remitted to CNSS quarterly by the employer.

IRPP (income tax)

Calculated on an annual base, after a 10% professional expense deduction (capped at 2,000 TND/year), using a progressive tax scale from 0% to 40%.

CSS (social solidarity contribution)

0.5% of the monthly taxable base, unless annual taxable income does not exceed 5,000 TND (full exemption in that case).

Family deductions

300 TND/year for the head of household, plus 100 TND/year per dependent child, up to 4 children.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculation apply to all contract types?

This simulator applies the general CNSS regime (RSNA), the most common for permanent/fixed-term employees. Some statuses (non-salaried manager, CIVP contract, non-resident...) follow different rules not covered here — the Iberis HR Payroll module natively handles these multiple regimes.
